5 Reasons Why I Will NOT Read Your Blog
Posted by Mike | Filed under Blogging
Let’s face it. Without readers, a blog is nothing but a piece of crap. Duh. Bloggers nowadays are looking for ways to increase their readership, and would probably do anything in their capacity to do so. I mean what the heck, even I do my best to increase my blog’s readership base! (Subscribe now, don’t miss this chance…) I am a blogger, but I must tell you that I read blogs as well. I subscribe to blogs which I believe can help me learn, and of course, to get other people’s insights. There are plenty of reasons why I don’t subscribe to blogs though, and I must warn you, if I think that your blog is not worth subscribing to because of one of those reasons, do NOT expect me to visit your blog. Never in a million years, pal.
Here are some of the reasons why I will not read a blog…
1. The content is not of my interest, or it is not of high-quality. After I arrive from school, I check my e-mail, look for interesting stuff to read, and delete all the boring mails that I received. The case with blogs is almost the same. I only subscribe to blogs that I find intriguing and interesting. If your content is junk, then your blog doesn’t deserve a spot in my feed reader. It’s that simple.
If you want to know if what you write is boring, try reading it yourself! After reading, ask yourself “Will I spend time to read posts similar to this?” If the answer is no, then change your writing style or write about other stuff.
2. You don’t update consistently. When I have decided to subscribe to a particular blog, I monitor the posting frequency of the author (Yep, I like observing and monitoring things). If he posted once a day for a week and the next week, he never posted at all, then I would think that he forgot about his blog or something. There are exceptions though. If he mentioned that he’ll be going away for a week, then I’d certainly understand that. So yeah, guys, make sure that you post a notice if you’re going on a vacation if you want to keep me as your reader!
3. You stopped writing about my interests. There are bloggers who change their blogs’ topics once in a while, so if you’re one of them, don’t expect to have loyal readers. If I subscribed to your blog because I was astounded by your great internet marketing related posts, and then you changed your blog’s focus to celebrity news, then do not expect me to keep my subscription. I’ll get your blog outta my feed reader right away.
4. You harass your readers. I don’t think there are many bloggers who do this, but yeah, I’ve seen a couple of ‘em and they definitely left a bad impression. If I see a blogger harassing his readers, then by all means, I stop reading his blog… even if the content is well-written. If you publish a post and a reader disagrees with your point, then don’t say all the bad words in the world to him! Instead, respect his opinion and have a discussion about it through comments.
5. You don’t reply to your readers’ comments. If you just let your readers comment and you don’t answer them, then I think it’s time for me to unsubscribe from your blog. If you just write and don’t give your thoughts on what your readers have to say (or at least acknowledge their opinions), I think you’re supposed to be keeping a secret diary, not a public blog.
I think that’s about it. If you do any of the above, don’t expect me to read and anticipate your posts. I have much better things to do than deal with losers (well, not really), so yeah. Count me out. Definitely OUT.
Well guys, I have to prepare for school projects and other stuff. I’ve got a lot of things to finish, I haven’t even read the book that was assigned to us. But what the heck, who cares about that book… I’ll just see what I can finish reading today and hope for the best during exams. Here’s one thing about me (I bet you didn’t know it): I hate books. Really. Especially the super thick ones that don’t interest me. So umm… catch ya later. Don’t go anywhere else!

Excellent post… I agree about harassing your readers - I’ve seen blogs where the owner was completely vile to his/her readers in the comments section, wondered why they stayed on
Maybe they just liked the owner that much.
Well, it’s good to see you here, Jason.
Yes I agree with this post. Nice one Jug! BTW about your contest… count me in! I heard that you’re going to run another contest right after the domain contest? Well, I’m joining that too!!!
Darel: Hey, thanks for the advanced active participation! I just added you on MSN man… lol I’m actually talkin’ to ya right now ’bout the contest. Well, gotta keep this comment short!
I couldn’t agree with you more on the harassment of readers. There is always two views to any debatable issue, and most posts are biased one way or another its natural, but you must accept other peoples point of views, and harassing them will definitely not change their point of view.

Hehe, nice post, I would like to know about the blog for point no. 4
Hope you would keep reading mine
Great article! I have visited countless blogs and very few editors actually respond to any comments made on their blogs.Blogging is interactivity and sharing information.
Sheen: Yeah, some bloggers are just so close-minded.
Life is Colourful: I’m not sure if I should disclose that blog or not.
Don’t you worry, I read your blog and I don’t think I’ll stop.
Tom: Right you are! Thanks for stopping by.
I’ve experienced this problem before. I had the tough decision of switching my blog’s topic from “Gaming” to “Internet” (which is quite a radical change). While I lost some readers, I gained a whole lot more other new readers. I guess I’m pretty lucky.
For us bloggers, the readers is our top priority. Its true, how great is your article is without readers, its a junk. Some bloggers think content is king but whats important is your way of promoting, advertising, marketing your blog. A perfect selected of social network is important. Always remember that our readers is our treasure, no matter if they give a good comment or not, because that is the way to blog! we bloggers depends on their comment to improve our blogs!
Mac: Hey! Thanks for your insightful comment. I hope to see you around here more often… I’m running a contest right now, I hope that you can participate.
not a bad post. valid reasons
Great post! Building a blog takes time and effort. For those that don’t post regularly the result is a forgotten blog that mat have started out in the right direction but just got lost through lack of effort.
Keep up the good work!
Ken: Thanks for that, I do hope to see you ’round my blog more often.
Join the contest too, if you have time.
Correctly said Mr. Juggler. And thats why people dont read my blog too

Hoo my, I hope I didn’t do those mistakes.. :p
If I did, please tell me. But..that means you’ll have to subscribe to me first, huh? Please don’t hesitate
Sometimes I also counter few blogs became a parked domain. They’ve given up I think…
Harassing the readers part is pretty funny, specially the picture…haha rofl
I believe that readers, no matter how small the contribution is as a reader, no matter how insignificant the traffic each gives, still gives traffic. I used to go to a well-known blog. Not anymore when I was harrassed.
I agree with you. Sometimes, I would skip the blog that is not my interest. I would skip blogs with too many ads as well. I don’t go there to read the ads.
I couldn’t agree more on this post. Nice article Mike.. I certainly dig the blog that can develop my interest.. ads really turns me down..
I believe that updating constantly is the key to maintaining readers. If readers come on your blog and see that it isnt updated often, they might get bored and leave.
I have also come across bloggers who hate any kind of comments that contradict them or their opinion and either argue about it or just delete all the unsatisfactory comments
What a nice article Mike. i can’t give any offense on you. Ads always turn me down and i might direct skip the blog or website due to the ads.
I don’t get it, is “jugger” “mike” too? sorry if it’s a dumb question, i’m new to tw3o.com.
Anyways, nice post it’s one of the best I’ve read about blogging. I’ve quit blogging a long time ago, but I’m planning to make a comeback. This one’s helpful, really.
@Eduardo, I have taken over the blog from Juggler.
