Of course all webmasters want their site to receive huge amounts of traffic. They do not want their sites to be hidden in the dark shadows of bigger sites. There are many things that you can do to increase your website’s traffic, but I have 5 things that you should not do if you want your site to be liked by other people.

Do not make navigation hard for your visitors. People today are very impatient. They want the information they need right away, and if you make it difficult for them to browse your site, they will surely leave.

Do not cluster your pages with ads. Web surfers, especially those with cash to spend (the visitors that you want) are very selective — they do not want crappy looking sites with too much ads that the content is already covered by banners and ad units. They want neat websites, and they will trust your site if it looks professional. If you want your site to look professional, check this article out.

Do not ignore your visitors’ suggestions. Without your visitors, your site is nothing. Feedbacks from them are not to be disregarded, you should always be open to comments and suggestions. Your visitors want to help you make your site better and remember that there is always a big room for improvement.

Do not have broken links. Your site must be fully functional before you publicize it. If your site has some broken links, repair them as soon as you can. If visitors see some dead links, they might think that you’re not updating your site and leave.

Do not copy others’ content. There are many sites that I see with no original content. They simply copy some articles from Wikipedia or other websites. When your visitors come across unoriginal content, chances are that they have already seen/read it and they might think that you are nothing but a copycat. They will not patronize your site, they will switch to more reputable websites.
