Are You a REAL Blogger?

Posted by Mike | Filed under Blogging

TypingLately, a lot of people have been starting blogs and most of them call themselves “professional bloggers”, “experts” or other similar titles. A really large number of these “bloggers” are just maintaining blogs to generate money; they are not doing what a REAL blogger should do!

There are a lot of differences between a real blogger and a wannabe blogger. In this post, I’ll state them and you’ll find out if you’re a real blogger or just someone who writes crappy articles for some cash.

What are the characteristics of a REAL blogger?

A real blogger…

Writes because he enjoys doing so. He shares what his thoughts are with his readers. He writes his opinions or some information that he thinks will help his viewers. He does NOT post articles for earning purposes.

Shares what he REALLY thinks. He does not write good things about a product just because someone paid him to do so. If he finds a product very expensive, that’s what he’ll write. He won’t mislead his readers by writing false stuff just because he will get money by doing so.

Writes for his readers, not for search engines. He does not post articles that are full of keywords just to have a good ranking in the search engines. He writes articles which entertain both his readers and himself. Optimizing a site for search engines should not, in any way, affect the quality of a blogger’s posts.

Will never depend on anyone to write for him! Remember, a blogger writes because he LIKES what he’s doing. If he runs out of ideas, he will not hire someone to write articles for him because that will ruin one of the things that a real blogger does — a blogger is someone who shares his OWN points of view with his readers. He will just publish a new post if he has something in mind already.

Allowing guests to publish posts is a different matter though. Guest posting helps in building a loyal community in your blog, so don’t be confused!

Does not and will not publish articles just to get paid. I know that I’ve been emphasizing on this point throughout the article, but I just want to make it clear. BLOGGERS DO NOT BLOG FOR MONEY! Real bloggers do not publish other people’s articles in order to make money. They value their readers so much that they do not want to disappoint them with those crappy paid posts.

Considers his readers’ opinions/comments. He always appreciates his readers’ viewpoints. He will try his very best to understand why a reader disagreed with his stand and he will accept all kinds of criticisms. Besides, a reader can’t just go with the blogger’s opinions all the way, bloggers and readers learn from each other!

Does not plagiarize. Plagiarism is a crime, and real bloggers will stay away from it. People do their best to write high-quality articles for their readers, and it will be a real pain if someone would just copy their articles and post them in another blog…

I guess that’s it. Feel free to add some more stuff by commenting on this post!

Now, let me ask you this question… are you a REAL blogger or not? If yes, then that’s excellent! Keep up the good work! If not and you would like to be one, ACT LIKE ONE. Don’t just be a wannabe, become one!

According to your post, I guess I am a REAL blogger. However, I am not a professional blogger by any standard. I define pro blogger as someone who blog for a living without another job.

Well they call it business! - I am not saying is the correct reason for setting up a blog, but usually is. Many just do it for the money which I disagree, but I wouldn’t say that making money with your blog is wrong specially if you enjoy helping others. Otherwise you wouldn’t be placing ads or selling links in your blog. Your main goal should be about sharing your thoughts with your readers and make your content useful for them.
