Did You Know…?

A Rather Funny Story

There was this guy from DP who posted a thread entitled “PR isn’t PageRank”. I was intrigued and I checked it out. Here’s what he had to say:

Did you know that PR stands for PigeonRank, and not PageRank? While nowadays everyone refers to it as PageRank, PigeonRank was the original name of the ranking system that Google developed in 2002 I think it was.

Read it while looking through a simple Google Timeline :P

I was surprised, actually. Someone just found out about Google’s 2002 April Fool’s joke, and thought that it was for real. Well, I can’t blame him for being a little “idiotic”; Google makes fantastic April Fool’s jokes. Don’t you agree with me?

Speaking of PageRank…

Well, the next PageRank update is coming. Are you excited, guys? I’m not. The folks at Google will just be updating the little green bar that shows the “importance” of your site. By the way, did you know that more people stopped caring about PR since the last update? :)

PageRank updates erratically (only Google knows when the next update will happen). The last update disappointed almost everyone.

Yes, I think that’s the reason why they stopped caring about PR.

To everyone: I’m looking for guest bloggers, please let me know through the contact form if you would like to contribute to the The WWW Observer.

    :)

Actually, the other reason why few cares so much about PageRank is because it doesn’t really influence search rankings significantly enough.

With regards to guest posting, maybe put up a guest posting contest? :p

Hmmm… I’ve got no ideas for a guest posting contest right now. Care to share some of yours? :D

Maybe the person with the most thought-provoking post will get the prize?

multippt,i think pagerank influences a lot the search engines.
I had a site that now raised to position one because it gained pr4 at the last pr update. This was the first pr update for that site so the rank went from 0 to 4.
For me,the last pr update was not a disappointment at all
