Don’t Just Build Links, Build Quality Links
Posted by Mike | Filed under Link Building, SEOLink Building VS Quality Link Building
A lot of people are complaining why their sites are not getting good search engine rankings when they have spent some time building links. Tell you what, these people are not lazy, they’re actually hardworking but they just don’t know how to be really productive and use their time wisely. Building links can be easy, but building quality links can be somewhat tedious. For those of you who didn’t notice the difference yet, “building links” pertains to just simply getting backlinks for your site. This means that you’re getting every single link that you can, but hey, how many of those 100 links that you developed are actually worth it? “Building quality links” is different. It means that you spend your time looking for links that are worth the time and effort. You won’t get a link for your internet marketing blog from an entertainment site simply because “it’s still a link”. Instead, you will find sites that are related to your own site’s topic, and try to get links from them.
“They’re still links!” is NOT an excuse.
When I’m building links, I make sure that they’re of high-quality — not just from some rubbish site which doesn’t even have a single page related to my blog. I always see to it that the site is well-established, updated regularly, and of course, has a good reputation. Even though some people say that grabbing every opportunity to get links is better than just concentrating on high-quality links, I still believe that you should NOT waste time in getting links that won’t really benefit you… especially if you’re buying them.
I had a site before and when I was developing links, I didn’t care that much about the quality. I just carelessly submitted to directories that weren’t even indexed, posted on forums that weren’t really that active, and commented on blogs that had their most recent post published two years ago. I said to myself before, “As long as I get links, I can rank higher!”. But I was wrong. I could have attained much higher rankings for that site of mine if I had used the time that was wasted in building not-so-good links to search for sites which could give me better links. When I realized my mistake, I really had regrets.
I strongly believe that using your time to find sites that can give you quality links is better than using your time to just get whatever link is available because you don’t know any site that can offer high-quality backlinks. I’d like to know what you think about this issue. Would you develop links even though they’re “not that good”, or would you just concentrate on high-quality links?

I write for links and I don’t really go all out to source for them. It is my daily blogging routines such as commenting, writing articles and networking that gain me links.
Seriously, I think submitting links to directories is a waste of time as they won’t get much attention compared to submissions to social bookmarking sites.
Thanks for leaving your thoughts, Wayne. I wonder why people still patronize mass directory submission services… directories aren’t that useful anymore, especially since new link building technologies are arising.
I had written one article on my experience of building links on same topic few days back.
Sounds cool, mind sending me the link to the post?
Yeah I wanted to share earlier but could not get chance to do that from office. Here is the post URL Why Backlink Quality is important than Quantity for Search Engine Optimization. Check it out n see if you like it.
Hey, great post man. I particularly liked the last part. “Volumes may not lift you up to the heights.” I’ve subscribed to your blog.
I’ve gotten a few quality links before. From experience, you mainly get very high “quality” links by chance. Of course, they are really worth it. I guess quality beats quantity all the time.
Nice post… I agree with you that quality is important in link building. But I think some people do not care about this. However, this article has given me new point of view about build links.
Jane: I’m glad to know that.
Thanks for visiting again!
Nice post but there is something missing like point to where and how to find quality links blogs or sites .
Until a few months ago I didn’t really think much about building links. I simply visited sites and if I liked the content I’d comment. I’ve since come to understand the importance of getting quality links. Good post.
I love your new design by the way.

Nice informative post. I think social blogs are good for building quality links. Submitting your link in directories is not tht much useful. I have experienced it. Stay in Social blogs, or u can buy some links..
Quality links are certainly more time consuming to get, but are well worth it.
However, I submitted a site to 1000 directories and within a month it went from position 110 to 19 in Google. In Live/MSN, it went from 500+ to position 6. And improvements were seen in Yahoo as well. Directory submissions do work, but the key is to avoid submitting to high pr web directories. I think most of them either delete free submissions or have half year waits for reviews.
