Ebay Affiliate Program Explained
Posted by Mike | Filed under Affiliate ProgramsHave you tried affiliate program after affiliate program only to earn very little if anything at all? Over the years I have tried over 50 affiliate programs and there is no affiliate program that has treated me better than the Ebay’s. I’m not saying that every Ebay affiliate will be success, but if you have the right niche blog or website, you can earn hundreds and even thousands of dollars each month being an Ebay affiliate.
Ebay is by far the most popular auction website in the world. It consistently ranks as one of the as one of the top 20 websites in the world (ranked #17 on Alexa as of this blog). Chances are you have an Ebay account or know someone that shops on Ebay. I do and I love it! Even if you don’t live in the United States you can be be an Ebay affiliate. Ebay has dozens of websites specific to other countries. For this article I will refer to the U.S. affiliate program.
What is the Ebay Affiliate Program all about?
Ebay pays affiliates in two ways.
- $25 per active active user you sent their way
- 50% commission on all Ebay profits that are generated through your website
Registered Users
First, Ebay will pay you $25 per user that registers through your site. The user must not only register, but become an active member of Ebay. Ebay states, “A visitor becomes a confirmed, active user of eBay.com within 30 days of registration.” I interpret this to mean the user must register at Ebay and at least place a bid or start an auction. If this happens then you will be given $25. The commission increases the more members that you send Ebay’s way.
Commission on Profits
Every time a user clicks on an Ebay link through your site and wins an auction on Ebay you will be given at least a 50% commission on the profit. Notice I said profit! You will not get 50% of the final auction price, but the 50% on the profit that Ebay makes from listing and other fees. Ebay also has incentives in this area and the commission rate increases based on the volume of sales through your site.
Tips for using the Ebay Affiliate Program
Ebay affiliates will only make money if their site topic is related to a category on Ebay. For instance, if your site is about stamps and you show some stamp auctions on your site you may do well. If your site is about cars and you display some Ebay Motor’s auctions on your site you may do well. But, if your site doesn’t relate to what someone may buy/sell on Ebay you will likely not do well. Like most affiliate programs they do not work for everyone.
How do I become an Ebay Affiliate?
Becoming an Ebay affiliate is pretty easy if you have a website. You can sign up from Ebay’s website or you can register with Commission Junction and apply to the program from there. You will also need an Ebay account if you plan on using Ebay’s powerful affiliate tools. I will cover some of the tools in a later blog!

Actually ebay is not with CJ anymore
They have their own website now which last I checked leaves a lot to be desired!!! They are working on it, i am hoping it will catch up soon!
Ebay is still with CJ. I log into CJ everyday.
Ebay will pay you $25 per user that registers through your site
Ebay is running their own program as of April 1 2008
Currently it is running concurrent with the CJ program, but the Commision Junction scheme will be unavailable soon - the end of April, IIRC
Thats a great article
i am still learning various things about Ebay’s new program.
Wow, I didn’t even realize Ebay had an affiliate system set up like this.
Correct, the CJ affiliation will cease to exist soon if it hasn’t already.
This is a fantastic article on it, thank you
Actually, eBay is giving their affiliate partners up until the end of May to transition all of their links over.
Fun, it will not be.
