Everyone’s So Crazy About PageRank!
Posted by Mike | Filed under GoogleI’m just ranting about this whole PR update thing…
A lot of people in webmaster forums are so obsessed with PageRank. They have been asking…
“Did one of your sites get a PR boost?”
“Anyone got a PR update?”
“Is the PR update starting?”
“How come my site’s PR didn’t change?”
…
These questions are redundant already; everyone’s been asking the same questions over and over again for the past few months. Why make a lot of new threads when you can just discuss everything in one place? Let’s keep it neat and tidy guys… Or better yet, why can’t we just wait for the actual update to happen and accept whatever PR our sites get? Don’t make a big fuss just because your site got a PR 3 from PR 4. Some people are just too restless.
Why are they so hyper when it comes to PageRank?
Well… I think they’re looking at the PR checkers every minute because a PR increase or PR drop will highly affect their link sales… and what’s funny is… Google is already penalizing link sellers, so why use PR as your basis for your link pricing? Your PR will just go down, so will your price.

It seems page rank is not going to play a major part in google rankings anymore. Which i must admitt is good. The whole system is flawed. Some of my specialist niche sites are being outranked by a site that has 4 lines of text on the niche, whereas my page has 30 pages on the niche and is loosing the ranking battle. I like your article and am happy with no PR.
Hey, thanks for the comment. Yes, PR is getting more and more irrelevant to the SERPs. I just wish that every webmaster would forget about PR and move on.
Interesting topic. Sometimes its frustrating focusing on PR as a way to measure the quality of a site. The process is much more complicated beyond PR. I have no clue how updated and accurate these measurements are. But, they definetly affect the way people perceive your site, which sucks!
Yeah! Some people even trust sites just because of their PR… here’s what I posted on Digital Point yesterday:
“…but don’t you think people won’t be able to determine the real reputation of sites if everyone just buys links for PR (and for trustworthiness)? Sure, they can say that a reputable company can pay for lots of things, but that’s just money, and it can’t prove someone to be trustworthy.”

I personally don’t think much of it, but still would like a good PR as people seem to look at PR as if it’s some sort of trust factor. In other words if your site has a bad PR then people are less likely to link to it, purchase advertising, etc. If it has a good PR then there is more chance of it getting advertised through comments, word of mouth, etc.
As long as pagerank plays no part in the SERPs I don’t really mind if a page is PR0 or PR10, I’ll visit pages for their content. I mean I’m running a trial on a parked domain which happens to have gotten a higher PR than the blog that I run that is reviewing it.
yeah!!people are more crazy about the page ranks…because google sorts the website according to page rank…moreover people are not able to determine te real value of site rather they determines according to page rank…..taking this as a advantage, web masters misusing by getting reciprocal links with mutual understanding
Don’t make money online depends PR! You will cry…
