Five Places to Promote Your Blog Articles

Posted by Mike | Filed under Traffic

Many bloggers write outstanding articles, but do little to promote their work. In most cases this is fine as Google, Yahoo and other search engines will find your article and send traffic your way. If your content is original, relevant and well written you will naturally get traffic. But more exposure can never hurt and for bloggers without a mass following of subscribers they should submit their articles to popular social bookmarking sites to get noticed. After you write an article you should submit them to these five sources.

1. Digg
Digg is a popular site to get you quick traffic. If your article is unique it can turn your website into a popular destination over night. Each article is assigned a number. Every new article starts with one digg. If another user likes the article they cast a vote and “Digg” it. The more Diggs, the more visible your article. A single unique, well written article can do wonders for your blog. Some categories do better than others. For instance, Technology and news seems to do better than others. If you have a great video or pic submit them as well!

2. Stumbleupon
Stumbleupon is a random site generator. Simply put, you download a toobar that allows you to click on a thumbs up or thumbs down. These are votes that allow Stumbleupon figure out what type of sites you like. If you click on the stumble button it will bring you to a site based on your noted past preferences. For instance, if you have voted on a lot of NFL football sites with the thumbs up button you will likley be brought to NFL sites. After you write the article click on the “Thumbs up” button and fill in the info. This will get your article is the stumble rotation. I typically generate more traffic from Stumble Upon than any other site.

StumbleUpon Toolbar

3. del.icio.us
del.icio.us is more of a personal bookmarking site that you can share with friends. If you take some time to build up some friends and possibly fans you may generate some traffic. This site takes more time than the others!

4. Facebook and My Space Profiles
If you have a Facebook and MySpace account I would recommend submitting your articles to your profiles. This is yet another inbound link and you with these site being so popular you will get traffic from them. This is especially true if you have built up a large friend network!

Photobucket

5. Yahoo, MSN, MySpace and Google Groups
This will only work if there are popular groups related to the topic of your article. For instance, if you blog is about Hannah Montana and there are groups with 1,000+ members then you should submit your articles to them. Don’t waste your time with groups that have no activity or less than 500 members. Spend a hour searching the groups and sign up for the ones that relate to your blog. Regardless if the group is public or private it is always good practice to contact the group owner and ask permission to submit your articles.

Yahoo Groups

Other Good Sources to Consider

After you spend time writing a great article show it off! Spend 5 minutes submitting your articles to these source to gain maximum exposure. If you know of other good sites to submit your articles to post a comment!

I should agree that I could never use StumbleUpon for effective traffic, and Digg anyways has banned my site for simply no reason, Damn!

But Yahoo / Google groups help me a lot to get huge traffic for my Finance blogs.

Life is colouful, Digg really banned your site? Dammm that’s unheard of. I’ll have to more careful when using Digg. And I agree, stumble isn’t so good for bringing traffic.

If you submit too many articles a day or simply link articles with affiliates in them you will get banned for spamming.
