Web traffic is very important to all webmasters. It is the thing that keeps their sites alive and it will determine the success of their sites. There are tons of traffic generation methods, but in this post, I’ll be discussing one of them, and that is free advertising.

First, let me define free advertising. Free advertising is a kind of advertisement method which can bring your website a lot of traffic if you know how to utilize the system wisely. Free advertising networks usually let people exchange ads. Here’s an example to make it clear:

Chip and Dale are both members of the Chipmunk Free Ad Network.

Chip has a website and he is serving the free ads. Dale’s ad can be seen on Chip’s site, and Visitor A clicked on Dale’s ad on Chip’s site. Chip will then receive a visitor from another site which also serves ads provided by the Chipmunk Free Ad Network.

It’s like a traffic exchange program, but you get quality visitors since they click on the ads because they’re interested in it!

How can free advertising help me in increasing my traffic? Well, before you even generate any traffic from free ad networks, you have to have at least a couple of people who regularly visit your site (and they MUST be interested in the ads!).

If they click on the ads, more people will flock to your pages and when they click on ads, more and more visitors will come your way! If the visitors that browsed your site liked your content, then they will spread the word to other whom they think will be interested in what you have to offer.

How can I get started? It’s easy! Just sign-up for a free ad network and put the ad code on your site. It’s like a normal ad network, the only difference is when people click on ads, you receive traffic, not money. Check my article which discusses how to improve your clickthrough rates if you want to know how to get more clicks (and more visitors!).

Here are some free ad networks that you might be interested in joining (they’re listed in alphabetical order):

Try them out, then after your ‘experiment’ please drop by and share your results by commenting on this post.

P.S. Watch out for more search engine optimization and other webmaster-related articles!

Seems like a great idea. Would it conflict with Adsense though? Maybe blogs that use adsense can’t opt into this opportunity.

I believe that serving free ads will not violate the TOS of AdSense as long as the ads are not contextual.
