Link Building FAQs - 1st Batch
Posted by Mike | Filed under Link BuildingUmmm… so… a lot of people have been asking me some stuff regarding link development. Well, those questions were really interesting and I believe that YOU would benefit from them. In this post, I will include some of the questions (with the answers, of course!) and hopefully, you will be guided by them.
Link Building FAQs
Q: How can I get natural backlinks?
A: Natural backlinks can be obtained by writing high quality content/articles which are worth linking to. If people find your work impressive, helpful and/or informative, they’ll surely link to it (if they have a website) and pass it on to others. Don’t expect to get a lot of inbound links if you just copy-paste some stuff!
Q: Is buying a listing on [insert name of a premium directory here] worth it?
A: Well, it actually depends on the directory. If you think that you’re going to get a better ranking on the search engines by buying a link there, then do it. If not, then don’t. Simple as that. Also consider the stability of the directory… if the owner has been working hard to establish it, then I think it’s worth buying a listing.
Q: Is paying for monthly/yearly/whatever links worth the money in the long run?
A: Sorry to say, but my answer here is NO. Why? It’s because those links won’t be helping your site FOREVER. What if your contract with the link seller ends? Then what you have spent is wasted… plain and simple. You should buy PERMANENT links (if ever you’re into buying them) since those will be helping your search engine rankings and thus aiding in driving traffic to your site.
Of course, you have the choice if you want to buy links on a monthly/whatever basis. It’s just that I don’t recommend it (though links from very stable sites which receive high traffic might be worth it).
Q: I have some money to spend. Should I buy $1 links from word clouds?
A: Oh no, NOT THIS ONE AGAIN! A lot of people have asked me about word clouds. Links from those sites are just NOT WORTH IT! Why? Because they won’t stay for long and you’ll just be wasting your money. If you’re not convinced, check my article on word clouds.
That’s it people! I will be regularly publishing some link building FAQs, so watch out for them!

Will the second batch address obtaining links in free directories? There’s a lot of discussion on this happening right now.
Website Magazine:
Since you mentioned it, I’ll include it.
Ya I think free directories should be added to the next link building FAQs. BTW good article on word/link clouds! Thanks.
Thanks for pointing out what link building methods to go for and which ones not to touch with a ten foot pole. With all the link building tactics out there, it’s hard to do trial and error on all of them to figure out which ones work well.
