Link Building FAQs
Q: Will the links from Digg and StumbleUpon increase my site’s link count?
A: Erm… sorry to say this, but NO. Links from Digg, StumbleUpon and several other social news/social bookmarking sites have the “nofollow” attribute. They do not give your sites the “link juice” that you’re longing for.
Q: Why are links from domains with the extensions .edu, .gov and .mil important?
A: Actually, the reason why those links have more weight than links coming from other sites is that .edu, .gov and .mil sites are usually content-rich sites. They are not sites full of crap and all that. They provide very useful information, and as we all know, search engines love sites which are full of content!
There can also be links from these sites which can be considered “not worth it”. Links from subdomains of these sites might not have the same weight as links from the homepage and/or pages under the domain. Why? Because the subdomains are considered as a totally different site by the search engines. Also, if the subdomain doesn’t have the content that search engines love, then the links from it do not carry the same weight as the links from the homepage.
Q: I’m too lazy to build links… Should I pay people to do the directory submission and other link building jobs for me?
A: If you have the money, why not? It will be nice if you can find the time to relax from the stressing link development works, but you have to make sure that the person you are paying is doing the job right. If you’re paying him to submit your site to one thousand (1,000) directories, you have to be certain that he really is submitting your site to 1,000 directories! Do not hire someone if he will not give you reports because will be risking your money by doing so.
If the person is from a trusted SEO company, then I guess that you can rely on him to do the job for you without you checking on him from time to time. Just wait until he finishes his work and see his report.

iCalvyn:
They should give reports which contain the URLs of the directories which they submitted. That way, you can check if your site was really submitted or not.
