Marketing a New Website

If you are launching a new website, you are going to need to get the word out. There are many ways to do that. You are going to want to tailor your marketing campaign to your specific website. Different methods of promotion will work better or worse for different types of websites. Anyway, let me briefly explain a few basic ways to promote a new website.
Blog Commenting – When you post comments on blogs, you will usually have the option to put in the URL of your own website. That can be used as a way to promote your own website. Other visitors to the blog may see your comment and click on your link to view your site. More importantly, the blog owner may check out your website. If your website is very good, there is a good chance the blog owner will post about it. Of course, you have the best chance of success if your comments are good and useful, so try to make well-thought-out responses to blog posts.
Social Bookmarking – You can use social bookmarking websites such as StumbleUpon to get the word out about a new website. Submitting a great website to a popular social bookmarking website will likely bring in thousands of users. But it will not work if your website is no good.
Forum Posting – Another great way to spread the word about your website is by posting on popular forums with a link to your website in the signature. If you already are an established and respected member of a forum, then you can probably post about your website and ask other users to check it out. However, if you are a new or unknown member, then that would be seen as spam. The trick to forum posting is to be as helpful as possible. If others like what you have to say, then they will visit your website through your signature link.
Ask For Reviews – Asking for reviews has two advantages. Firstly, it will help spread the word about your website, especially if the reviews are posted somewhere popular. Secondly, the review will help your improve your website. If you make your website better, it will make it easier to promote. If you can make the website great enough, then it will promote itself.
Those are just a few methods of promotion. You’ll probably want to experiment with other ways of promoting your website. Track the results, and find what works best for your website. Good luck!

Very informative post, Scott.

could not of been said better. I agree, also asking for free stumbles on sites like http://www.digitalpoint.com and http://www.configurationstation.com are excellent ways to bring traffic to your site. (and its free, which is the best part)
Great post, some good info cheers.
Great post Scott Blog commenting and asking for reviews are two of the areas I’m starting to look into a little more. Social bookmarking and forum posting has already provided a nice traffic boost.

Wpthemes43.com: Hey, thanks for stopping by, and I’m glad that you liked Scott’s post.
I checked your blog, and I can say that you have some good content there. I suggest getting a new theme, well, maybe it’s just me but it looks too plain.
For Social bookmarking content is the king whethe it is new website or old one withe a good content and cool templete of webpage are the more importrnt things to track the visitors
Excellent article!! Some great tips & tricks here.I really liked it.I think that A promotion does not necessarily mean financial benefits, it also means more responsibility. Before you look to get a promotion on your Job there are certain things you must take into consideration.
great article:)
my favourite to market a new site is through organic SEO. content is the king, the links are the queen. having a builtin blog in the site do help a lot. then can have the articles as a linkbait. then do social bookmarking, forum signatures,, to build links to naturally increase the rankings of the site
That basically covers almost all steps.
Do you suggest paid advertising initially ?
@manju
blog design also matters, though mine sucks, hehehe… :p
@wpthemes43.com
the last article about seo as a starting point is informative. you can create more content like that one and spread the word through social networks and social bookmarks
@juggler
in case you’re still moderating..
i forgot to edit my link on my previous comments. it’s still linked to my post about your contest, sorry
@meethere
paid advertising is ok by me, but it won’t be necessary if someone already has great content.
google never spent a dime on advert, as far as i know. it’s the people spreading their service without being told to
Louis Liem: Yep, got it. I edited the URL in your other comments. BTW I merged your comments (Most likely you’ve noticed it already).
