Relevant Keywords as Your Anchor Text
Posted by Mike | Filed under Link Building, SEOHello everyone, how are your link building works going? Are they doing good, or not so good? Well, I’m going to give some tips on how to effectively build backlinks and get higher rankings on search engines.
Before you start your link development campaigns, you have to decide which words to use as your anchor text. For those newbies out there, an anchor text is something that you use as your link in place of your URL.
To take advantage of anchor texts, you must know how to manipulate them so that they can support your site in terms of search engine optimization. The best thing to do in order to let them help in your website’s search engine optimization is to use relevant keywords as your anchor text. Here are some tips on how to do this.
Only use the most important keywords. Three to four keywords will do; do not use your site’s description as your anchor text. If your site is about travel tips, just use “Travel Tips” as your anchor text. NEVER use “The most effective travel tips can be found in this site!” as your anchor, since it’s just not right and will definitely not help you. Just use the words which you want to rank high for, and are frequently searched for in the search engines (and are closely related to your site’s topic).
Here’s an example of a good anchor text for The WWW Observer: SEO Blog
I used SEO Blog as the anchor text because the blog is mainly about SEO tips.
Make your anchor text look neat. Always keep in mind that professionalism and neatness is very important, even in the world of SEO. Do not use a lot of keywords and separate them with commas as your anchor text (like SEO, blog, internet, reviews, AdSense)! This will usually piss people off, and they won’t bother to click on your link. Remember, you’re not building links just for the PageRank, you’re also building them to get some visitors.
Never put unnecessary words in your anchor text. Well, a lot of people seem to do this, but in my opinion, it is improper. Anchor texts like “Premium Web Directory - CLICK HERE!” and “Cheap ISP - Subscribe now!” are just not going to work. Delete “click here” and “subscribe now” and your anchor texts should be in good condition.
Use different anchor texts, don’t just stick to one. When you link to your site, use different anchor texts so that your site’s potential to get a high ranking will be maximized. For example, if you have a blog about web design, don’t just use “Web Design Blog”, you may also try “Website Templates” if your blog offers some website themes. Feel free to experiment on keyword combinations
