Techniques to Keep Your Site Active

Websites are made to serve their purpose which is to entertain and/or give information to people. What happens if your site shares incorrect information and doesn’t remove your visitors boredom? Very simple! It DIES… well, not actually, it just becomes another piece of trash on the web and getting visitors will be very rare for your website.
Most of the ‘dead’ websites are still being paid for by their owners, and usually, the webmasters of those sites are just losing money because of the domain and hosting costs of their USELESS sites.
So how can I prevent your site from being a useless place on the internet? There are many things that you can do to maintain the ‘energy’ and interactiveness of your website. You can run some activities for your visitors so that they’ll never get bored when they’re on your site.
Anyway, I’ll give some tips on how to keep your site alive and kicking.
How to Keep Your Site Active (and generate MORE visitors)
First, you have to make sure that people have a purpose to visit your site AGAIN and AGAIN. You should know how to make them have to browse your site frequently. Update your site often, make your site easy to navigate and so on… you know, the usual stuff. Check my article on how to generate returning visitors if you’re new to this.
Run contests. Contests can be really fun, especially if a lot of your site viewers participate. You can host an article writing contest, an image manipulation contest or whatever contest you want. Just make sure that you offer fair prizes! Don’t give $1 to the winner of a website designing contest… you know what I mean…
Make your site interactive. Well, if you own a website which focuses on serious stuff (politics, news, etc.), your site doesn’t have to be that boring, you know! You can add stuff to make it more fun to browse — things like ‘Politics Quizzes’ or some fun facts can be good. If you can include games related to your site’s topic, that would be excellent!
Establish a community. By simply letting people vote on polls and comment on your content, you are already building a community within your site. If you can, let your visitors create teams or groups and instead of running a contest wherein only an individual can win, try hosting one where a group of people can get the prize. Feel free to make activities which you think can help in building a community.
Let your visitors contribute. This is kind of connected to the last tip… if you let your viewers submit stories, images or other things, they will feel that they’re part of the site. Also, when people can share their stuff on your site, they will encourage their friends to do the same. When that happens, your site will become more active and you’ll be happy since you’ll be getting lots of hits.
I guess that’s it! Well, that’s all people. Feel free to add to these techniques by commenting on this post. Thanks a lot!
