If you have a domain and don’t want to pay for web hosting services, you have no option but to use free domain web hosts. There are a LOT of them on the net, and most of them require you to post on forums just to avail of the hosting service. There are also some which offer the service for free, but there are ads and oftentimes, they’re not that reliable.

In this post, I will list and give a brief review of my top three (3) free web hosting services. I will specify if they will put ads on your site and if there are any requirements to be met before you can get a free hosting service.

Can’t wait any longer? Here they are:

1. Doteasy
Web space: 100MB
Bandwidth: 1GB per month
Requirements: Your own domain
Forced ads: None
My review: Doteasy is an excellent choice for people who need a reliable host but can’t afford the expensive ones. Its $0 plan offers a nice amount of web space and bandwidth. The support team is very active too; there is a live chat which the customers can use to seek help… Oh, and there’s also a free website design tool that you can use. ;)

The only downside that I can see in this host is that the amount of web space that it offers is not comparable to what the other free hosts give.

2. Free Hostia
Web space: 250MB
Bandwidth: 5GB per month
Requirements: Your own domain (or you may get a free subdomain)
Forced ads: None
My review: Hmm… let’s see. Free Hostia is a good host which is generous enough to give a lot of space (considering that the hosting is free). The hosting that it provides is really good in terms of reliability, but unfortunately, the features are really limited. You may only have one (1) mySQL database and one (1) FTP account. The control panel is not very neat too, but who cares? It’s free anyway!

3. AwardSpace
Web space: 200MB
Bandwidth: 5GB per month
Requirements: Your own domain
Forced ads: None
My review: Well, AwardSpace gives a great amount of web space and bandwidth, and that is good especially for sites which use up a lot of resources. There are some really bad sides to this host though… It does not offer 24/7 support to customers who are using the free hosting service, and there is no free site builder available for people who are using the $0 plan. And the control panel is really limited!

Don’t forget Awardspace’s ‘banned word list’ either.

Someone happens to type ‘Ebay’ or something equally innocent and your site disappears and the only way to get it back is for you to dive into the SQL to delete the word.

    Highly unrecommended…..

    Hi Chris,

    Thanks for dropping by!

Well, AwardSpace is one of the ‘better’ free web hosts. Loads of the others are crappier than AwardSpace, so I guess it can be one of the top free web hosts.
