Traffic Generation Methods

Hey guys, I hope your sites are getting more and more visitors each day. I think some of you are really happy to see your counters hit the roof, but unfortunately, some people are just a little bit unlucky that their sites aren’t receiving a good number of hits.
In my point of view, the reason why some webmasters aren’t getting much web traffic to their sites is because they’re just running out of ideas on how to generate more traffic to your website.
To help those who can’t think of ways to increase the number of their sites visitors, here’s a list of traffic generation methods that add to your ‘memory bank of traffic building techniques’ (or if not, at least they’ll refresh your memory!).
Traffic Generation Methods
Social Bookmarking - This one is perhaps one of the most effective traffic building technique. Social bookmarking websites like Digg, del.icio.us and StumbleUpon will drive a lot of people to your site especially if your content is great. The more people who like your site, the more visitors the social bookmarking sites will send, so make sure that your stuff are good (in short, make your site interactive… no boring stuff please…)!
Viral Marketing - This method will not only send you traffic, it will also give your site some backlinks! Publish some controversial articles and host some funny images on your site then pass the URL to your friends. After a few days, the traffic that your site gets will surely increase! Be sure to check your inbound links too, there will be a high possibility that your backlinks will increase!
Article Writing and Submission - This is something that good writers can do to increase website traffic and backlinks. This can also provide some income for them! To learn more on how to earn money by writing (and by doing other stuff), check this article: Creative Ways to Earn Online.
Okay, back to article writing and submission… Simply write great articles (According to my experiment, how-to’s work best!) and submit them to article directories. Don’t forget to include your link at the bottom of the article to let the people know that you wrote it. If they find the article useful and/or informative, they’ll surely visit your site — trust me, it works!
Yahoo! Answers - Some people might not know this, but Yahoo! Answers doesn’t just send your site tons of traffic; it sends your site tons of high-quality traffic!
So how do I gain traffic from Y! Answers? Just answer questions which are related to your site’s topic, put your site as the source and see the traffic coming in! It’s better if the source that you give is an article which answers the question because the person who asked will find your site useful and there’s a good chance that he will pass it on to his friends.
I will write a more detailed article about Yahoo! Answers as a traffic source in the near future, so watch out for it!
Posting Classified Ads - Posting on Craigslist and Gumtree can be very effective especially if you sell products on your website. Classified ads can drive a lot of people to your site only if you have the ability to post a persuasive and catchy ad, so use a nice title and give details that you think will convince people to look at what your site has to offer.
Running Ad Campaigns - Ad campaigns on AdWords or Yahoo! Search Marketing are very effective traffic drivers. If you know how to run a successful campaign, you will earn more visitors, sell some items and definitely get back the money that you spent during the ad campaigns. To make your ad campaign successful, you must set a good budget per click and target the right keywords. If your site is about MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games), then do not target the keyword “games” — instead, target the keywords “Online RPG” or a name of one MMORPG.
Last but DEFINITELY not the least… Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - This is the ultimate traffic source. By optimizing your site, people who search for what you offer will see your site and will visit it. By targeting the right keywords and setting the correct meta tags, you’ll see an amazing number of hits from search engines. SEO is not just about targeting keywords and meta tags though.
