What I Think About Viral Traffic Programs
Posted by Mike | Filed under Traffic, Traffic-buildingViral traffic programs are software or sites which claim to increase your traffic like a spreading virus. Usually, these programs promise to give your site quality traffic that your traffic will hit the roof without you exerting too much effort. All you have to do is let other people register for the same program and you will get some visitors. But is it really worth it? Are these programs really effective?
These programs operate by getting users to sign-up. Before a user gets an account, he would have to click a number of links, wait for a code to pop-up on each link, put the codes in the text boxes on the viral traffic site and then recruit/refer others so that they’ll get the traffic.
Here’s an example situation to clear things up:
Person A signs up, clicks 5 links (which leads to other members’ sites), gets 5 codes and gets an account.
Person A then refers Person B to the viral program in hopes to get traffic. Person B clicks 5 links, one of which is Person A’s. After the codes appear, he copies the codes and then gets an account.
Person B tells his friend, Person C, to register so that they both get traffic. Person A also gets traffic since he referred Person B.
The same thing happens over and over again.
But do you think that Person A will benefit from the hits that he got? The answer is no. The people are actually clicking the links to get the code, not to look at the site. The links are totally irrelevant and no one could be sure if Person B, the person referred by Person A, is actually interested in what Person A is offering.
Sometimes, you can’t even call those hits as unique visitors. Who knows, some people might be browsing other sites while waiting for the code to appear. Those are what I call trash traffic, not guaranteed, quality traffic.
Eventually, those people who are members of viral traffic programs will just be passing their referral links to each other and not benefit from it.
These are just my thoughts on this traffic-building strategy. Personally, I wouldn’t waste my time on these programs, but you could try it out especially if you’re desperate.
