Yet Another PageRank Update!
Posted by Mike | Filed under GoogleAh… another PageRank update. Let’s all rejoice! Well, webmasters seem to be excited to know the results of the PR update. Will their sites’ PR go up, down, or upside down? They sure can’t wait to find out! Take a look at this screenshot of the DigitalPoint forums.

10 out of 17 threads are PageRank related threads. Gee, I still can’t believe that most of the webmasters are just concerned about their sites’ PageRank.
Why People Want PageRank
I don’t think it’s for more traffic. PageRank doesn’t improve your search engine rankings, thus it doesn’t bring traffic. I truly believe that it’s just for the money that they can earn from selling links and blog posts. My proof? Have you seen some of those high PR blogs which have an Alexa Rank of 500,000-1,000,000ish? Their domains are not related to what the blog is all about. The posts don’t have comments. All the posts are reviews. Well, those blogs are just made so that the owner can make a quick buck writing biased reviews for other sites to gain “popularity”.
Wait…did I just say popularity? Well, I think people buy those reviews NOT for exposure and popularity, but for PageRank! Why do they want to gain a higher PR? To sell links. Why do people buy those links? To get a higher PR. Argh… you want PR to earn money? Why don’t you just promote your site and serve CPC or CPM ads? I’m sure telling your friends about your great site is much easier than building links solely for PR.
I’d like to know what you guys can say about this.

Nobody gave anyone the memo that my increased TBPR means they should give me more money!

I guess it’s understandable, though. What else do we have to base relative popularity on? Alexa’s a joke, Compete doesn’t really work for the smaller sites, and don’t get me started on IZEA’s new program.
PageRank is a sign of authority to people. No one cares about how it affects search rankings (sort of).
On any case, there’s always that temptation to look at the green bar…
The PageRank updated halted temporarily over the weekend (it is the weekend after all right?). Generally, this update sees more increases in PageRank in the general level, particularly for new sites.
I obviously expected mine to go up, but it dropped to PR0. Google finally caught on to my link selling.
Some of the people checking their new Page Rank are hoping that a higher PR will equate to higher rankings.
And some of them are like me, and pay some vague attention to PR on the thinking that if PR rises I must be doing something right
Yes it does..Pagerank brought for one of my blogspot blogs more traffic than another blog of mine with the same niche has
I don’t think toolbar PR can be somehow connected with rankings.
Anyway for a webmaster it works like a red rag to a bull…
I think Pagerank is really nothing more then a manipulation and marketing tool that Google uses. It causes people to focus on what Google wants and keeps you focused on Google. Hence, it keeps you from thinking about other search engines.
The endless discussion about pagerank:)…I think Google has made a great marketing strategy. Even not all of us really care about pagerank, but however it has created a long discussion.
I was bummed that my new blog, which had been up about 3 months before the PR, update didn’t get any PageRank. In my case, my interest was pure vanity, to let the whole world know that my blog matters! But, no, PR won’t change the quality of my life but it will make it easier to get advertisers if I ever want to go there.
